With high water levels on the Vermilion River, many boaters are not sure if their boat will fit under the bridge to go out to Lake Erie. In an effort to help boaters to determine whether or not their boats can fit under the bridge, Bill McCarthy, of the Vermilion Port Authority, constructed a sign featuring a water level meter. The sign was installed by Erie Shore Wave Runners along their dock for boaters to use as a guide.
“It's not a 100% official measurement, but it's pretty darn close,” stated Chris Haynes of Erie Shore Wave Runners.
The post reads from the lowest point of the bridge, down to the water surface.
