The Brownhelm Historical Association, in partnership with the Lorain County Metro Parks, hosts the Annual Civil War Days at Mill Hollow in the Vermilion River Reservation in September. Bring the whole family down to the park for loads of fun and learning about America's Civil War. The event features an authentic soldiers' encampment, demonstrations on period cooking and photography, educational presentations about Civil War era medicine, uniforms, ladies' wear, artillery fire demonstrations, and more!
Visitors get a chance to try on period clothing, learn to march like soldiers, drink sarsaparilla, and play ‘old fashioned’ games. You may even sit for a tintype 'photograph' made through the exact method used on Civil War battlefields in the 1860s. The historic Bacon Home will be open for self-guided tours throughout the day.
The event is free so bring a picnic lunch and spend a day learning about one of the most important periods in American History!.
Spanning two adjacent areas separated by the Vermilion River—Mill Hollow on one side and Bacon Woods on the other—Vermilion River Reservation is a favorite of picnickers, naturalists and anyone who just wants to enjoy its natural beauty.
