Hot Diggity Dog Day, hosted by Main Street Vermilion, takes place on Saturday, September 14, 2019 from 10 am to 1 pm at Main Street Beach in downtown Vermilion, Ohio.
Enjoy quality time with your dog during the second annual Hot Diggity Dog Day. Held at the foot of Main Street in Vermilion you'll find vendors, dog games and fun, prizes, kid activities, giveaways, off leash beach time and more followed by the Strut Your Mutt Parade, which this year will travel up Main Street and end in the middle of town. Each registrant also receives a Wag Bag, filled with dog swag.
Afterwards, stay in town to shop the Downtown Dog merchants featuring dog-related products, and join in the Weenie Walk. Many restaurants have animal friendly patios or offer carry out to enjoy in the downtown parks.

The Brownhelm Historical Association, in partnership with the Lorain County Metro Parks, hosts the Annual Civil War Days at Mill Hollow in the Vermilion River Reservation in September. Bring the whole family down to the park for loads of fun and learning about America's Civil War. The event features an authentic soldiers' encampment, demonstrations on period cooking and photography, educational presentations about Civil War era medicine, uniforms, ladies' wear, artillery fire demonstrations, and more!
Visitors get a chance to try on period clothing, learn to march like soldiers, drink sarsaparilla, and play ‘old fashioned’ games. You may even sit for a tintype 'photograph' made through the exact method used on Civil War battlefields in the 1860s. The historic Bacon Home will be open for self-guided tours throughout the day.
The event is free so bring a picnic lunch and spend a day learning about one of the most important periods in American History!.
Spanning two adjacent areas separated by the Vermilion River—Mill Hollow on one side and Bacon Woods on the other—Vermilion River Reservation is a favorite of picnickers, naturalists and anyone who just wants to enjoy its natural beauty. Just next to the Bacon House Museum, the Carriage Barn offers visitors information about the park and hosts nature programs.
Vermilion River Reservation is located at 51211 North Ridge Rd., just 4 miles south of downtown Vermilion, by the intersection of North Ridge and Vermilion roads.
Bringing residents and business leaders together to celebrate autumn and the changing of the seasons, the annual Fall Into Autumn & Holiday Gift Giving Event takes place in September in Vermilion, Ohio. Vermilion businesses, organizations and individuals make and display scarecrows. The downtown businesses display their scarecrows outside of their businesses, while individuals and businesses outside the downtown area display their scarecrows in Exchange Park. Exchange Park is filled with a variety of unique and lovingly made scarecrows from businesses, organizations, and residents.
Residents and visitors to Vermilion have the opportunity to vote for their favorite scarecrow. Voting slips are available in local businesses. The winning scarecrow is announced at the final Third Thursday of the season.
Looking for something to do on a Thursday evening? Stroll through historic downtown Vermilion while being serenaded. Vermilion has become known throughout the region for its fabulous Third Thursday Music, Flowers & A Sunset concerts which take place May through September.

There is an exciting array of free musical entertainment for you with over 12 bands scattered throughout Harbour Town. The Vermilion Farmers Market sells locally grown produce and products, local cottage industry products, local art, and local crafted items directly to consumers each Saturday late June through early September in Victory Park at the corner of Ohio and Main streets in downtown Vermilion.
Fresh seasonal produce, herbs and flowers, home baked goods, quality artwork and crafts, and much more are offered. The open air market is the place to gather with friends and neighbors, a shady stop on a bike tour, or just a fun place to hangout. Every week there is a special event that makes the Market even more fun!
From the Market, it's an easy walk to downtown merchants and restaurants as well as the lake and library. Make it a point to wander down, browse the stores and shop local!
This is a wonderful opportunity to bring local products for sale to residents and visitors coming to downtown Vermilion, as well as to encourage them to visit the different merchants and restaurants.
The Vermilion Port Authority Duck Dash 500 takes place on Sunday, September 16, 2018.
Each year in August the Vermilion Port Authority hosts the Annual "Duck Dash 500" on the Vermilion River. Thousands of Ducks race down the Vermilion River.
Join the fun by sponsoring a duck for $5 each or a "Quack Pack" of 5 for $20. Then show up at the Vermilion River bridge or McGarvey's Landing and watch as your duck is dumped into the river and races towards the finish line. The first place winner is awarded $1000, second place is awarded $500 and third is awarded $250.
Fun and festivities start at 6:30 pm at McGarvey's Landing. Sponsor a duck at local, participating merchants. Door prizes are also awarded by local merchants.
